Gaza Ceasefire
International News. The blood-soaked days in the Gaza Strip are perhaps moving towards some relief. A proposal for a 60-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has been prepared under the mediation of America. Israel's PM Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to this deal. However, he said that he is seriously considering every aspect. The most shocking thing is that this deal includes not only live hostages, but also the bodies of 180 dead Israeli citizens, which will be handed over to Hamas.
28 Israeli hostages held by Hamas will be released, many of whom have been reported dead. In response, Israel will release 125 Palestinian prisoners. Apart from this, Israel has also agreed to return 180 bodies, which it will hand over to Hamas as dead hostages. This exchange is not just political, but also an emotional and diplomatic bargain, which has come under the gaze of the whole world.
The script of this ceasefire was written in Washington, Cairo and Doha. US President Donald Trump is personally active in this plan, while countries like Egypt and Qatar are also playing the role of mediator in this deal. The White House clearly said that Israel has agreed to this deal. Hamas has indicated to announce its decision by Friday or Saturday. International pressure is also a big reason for Hamas to agree to this deal. European countries like Germany, France and Britain have recently passed a resolution against Israel's action. Muslim countries like Turkey and Malaysia are also constantly demanding peace in Gaza. This is the reason why Hamas is also under pressure to accept the ceasefire.
International anger over Gaza is such that environmental activist Greta Thunberg is now reaching Gaza with humanitarian aid. She will be accompanied by a French-Palestinian MP Rima Hassan. This trip is part of a humanitarian campaign called Freedom Flotilla. Diplomats from 31 countries have already visited Gaza, where firing also took place from Israel.
The question is whether the ceasefire will really be the first step towards lasting peace, or is it just a political compulsion? When bargaining starts for skeletons in exchange for prisoners, it becomes difficult to understand what price humanity is paying. Perhaps Netanyahu's agreement reflects the same pressure that the whole world is now feeling - that Gaza should finally be allowed to breathe.
